As I campaign for the U.S. Senate, I am deeply honored to earn the support of Alabama’s working families, whose voices deserve to be at the forefront of our political discourse. My commitment to advocating for fair wages, better working conditions, and the empowerment of workers is not just a political stance; it is rooted in my personal experiences and the beliefs I hold dear. With the support of the Committee to Elect Dakarai Larriett, I aim to bring a fresh perspective to our nation’s capital that prioritizes the needs of the people over corporate interests.

In August, I had the privilege of speaking at the third annual “Stakes at the Gate,” hosted by the International Association of Machinists (IAM) Local Lodge 2003. This event was a gathering of union members, community leaders, and residents, showcasing the power of collective bargaining and the importance of unionization. I spoke passionately about my plans to support these efforts in the Senate, emphasizing that we must put people first and ensure fair wages and safe working conditions for all. It was inspiring to see so many individuals committed to making a difference in their communities, and it reaffirmed my belief that when we stand together, we can achieve significant change.
During this forum, which took place on August 16, IAM Local 2003 brought together over 25 candidates from various races, allowing them to present their platforms directly to union members. IAM Local 2003 Legislative Chairman Patrick Wise eloquently stated, “This event gives working people in Alabama the chance to connect directly with those seeking to represent them.” When candidates show up, they demonstrate a commitment to valuing the voices of working families, and I am proud to have been one of those candidates.
The enthusiasm and turnout at the event underscored an essential truth: our union halls are more than just venues for negotiations; they are places where democracy is practiced. IAM Local 2003 President Anthony Holton’s words resonate deeply with me: “The turnout today proves that when we say show up, be heard, and be counted, our members take that seriously.” This is the essence of what it means to be a representative of the people listening to their concerns, addressing their needs, and championing their rights.
In my own journey, I have faced challenges that have shaped my understanding of the systemic barriers that many workers encounter. I am currently in litigation with my former employer, Whirlpool, for civil rights violations, racial discrimination, and harassment. My experience highlights a troubling reality: corporate and office workers are often left unprotected in the workplace. Once I am in the Senate, I will prioritize developing legislation that safeguards the rights of all workers, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their job title, is treated with respect and dignity. Operating a business in America and Alabama is a privilege, not a right, and we must hold employers accountable to that standard.
The support I have received from Alabama’s working families is a testament to a shared vision for a better future. The Larriett for Alabama campaign is not just about me; it is about uplifting the voices of those who have been historically marginalized and ensuring that their concerns are addressed at the highest levels of government. I am committed to advocating for policies that protect workers’ rights, improve labor conditions, and promote fair wages.
In the Senate, I will push for comprehensive labor reforms that prioritize collective bargaining and unionization. Workers deserve a seat at the table, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that their voices are heard in discussions about policy and legislation. It is time for us to recognize the essential role that unions play in advocating for working families and to support efforts that strengthen their power.
As we move forward in this campaign, I urge every Alabama voter to consider the impact of their choices. Together, we can create a political landscape that prioritizes the well-being of working families over corporate profits. By standing in solidarity with one another, we can drive the change we wish to see.
I am grateful for the support I have received from the community, and I promise to be a champion for your rights in the Senate. The fight for fair wages and safe working conditions is far from over, but together, we can make significant strides. With your support, we can ensure that Alabama’s working families have a voice in Washington.
Join me in this movement, and let’s build a brighter future for all Alabamians. Vote for change, vote for equity, and vote for a candidate who believes in the power of working families. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we can build a better Alabama.
